An Evening with John Moore

Thursday, October 27
7:00pm
252 Bloor St. W.
Room 5280

John Moore is originally from Serpent River First Nation and currently
a resident of Sudbury, Ontario. In 1978, he was unjustly convicted of second-degree murder despite having no role in perpetrating the crime –
at that time, the law allowed conviction solely on the basis that John had spent time with the individuals who committed the crime. His trials were tainted with systemic racism and he ended up spending ten years in prison.

Although the law under which he was convicted was ruled unconstitutional in 1987, John’s thirty-year struggle continues. He bears the burden of the stigma of his conviction, and the parole system imposes limits on his life and opportunities. He has spent long years
building support in the Sudbury community, he successfully got his
struggle raised on the floor of Parliament, and, most recently, the
Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted has begun paying close
attention to his case. Join us to learn about John's struggle for
exoneration and about how you can get involved.
